One of the most useful implements you can run from your John Deere compact utility tractor is the backhoe. It’s a far more versatile tool than just allowing you to dig a deep hole, though they excel at that too. Check out these examples from John Deere’s Tips Notebook of the wide variety of projects you can tackle with a backhoe.
1. Dig out a drywell
Drywells are a great way to keep water away from your house’s foundation, which can prevent all sorts of problems down the line. A backhoe can help you dig out the necessary trench and hole for the drywell pipe and bucket. And it has the precision to keep the slight grade you’ll need for the drywell to work properly. 2. Build a retaining wall
Handling large digging tasks like clearing out a platform for a retaining wall is another great place that a backhoe excels. When there’s a large volume of dirt to be moved, a backhoe makes quick work of the job, even if you don’t necessarily need the incredibly powerful digging force. 3. Removing a stump
Although there isn’t as much dirt to move around a tree stump, they can be notoriously difficult to remove. It’s also extremely useful for finally removing the trunk for easier disposal.
